Foreclosure sales accounted for 46 percent...

Foreclosure sales accounted for 46 percent of all residential sales in Georgia during the first quarter, the third highest percentage of any state.  The average price of a foreclosure-related sale in Georgia during the first quarter was $103,909, down 3% from the previous quarter and down 10% from the first quarter of 2011.  Pre-Foreclosure Short Sales hit a three year high, while the average price dipped to a record low.

Over the past year, Atlanta’s average home prices fell by almost 18 percent.  According to S&P/Case-Shiller’s latest monthly report, that’s the highest percentage drop of any major American city.

While national numbers are staying flat or gradually improving month-to-month, Atlanta’s home prices continue to decline.

Atlanta is still struggling because of the high foreclosure rate, a flooded market, and a local unemployment rate that remains above the national average.
